Custom Textures

This is a custom Texture i made using Photoshop and 3Ds Max. It looks awesome because it looks rusted and has some awesome looking stickers on it. The Rust was done using a picture from google images and changed the effect to "lightened" and then turned down the opacity to get this rusted effect.

Reflection of my timed assessment

This is a comparison of my render and a professional render. Of course the professional render puts my model to shame but both are good in there own rights. The styles used are differant too, my render was inspired by Steampunk unlike the proffessional comparison which is more of a cartoon style. The lighting makes the feel of it different too, the lighting in my render makes the ship look dark and scary looking especially when it's sporting that partical cannon. The lighting in the professional render is more lighthearted and happy with the nice fluffy clouds... it's not really my style but it's nice all the same.

What Could I do better next time?: I could try smothing the model out more and spend more time textureing because it looks mostly made of only 2 textures.
What could I improve?: I could improve my skills in making details on the brow and the cannons.
What Went Well?: The shape of the ship as a whole whent quite well. The lighting came out pretty awesome too.
What didn't go well?: If I had to pick one thing that didn't go to plan, it would be the wings. The original design was inspired by fighter jet wings but my ship's wings came out curvy which is ok... if you're into that kind of thing.
Did I use my time well?: I managed to finish with time to spare so I believe I used my time well.
What have I learned?: Before I came to Shipley, I had no idea what to do in 3D max but now I can texture, modify, box model and light the object. I think I have come a long way since the beginning of my course.
What am I confident with?: I am confident with my ability to make a low poly model and to texture it with simple preset textures.
Did I get the desired outcome?: In all, I believe the outcome was successful although a few changes were made to the orginal design such as the partical cannon and the flaps on the back of the model.

Animation of mah timed assessment

This is a short animation of my ship flying off towards the camera. The lighting looks pretty badass but the animation it's self as it's a little to simple but hey, I have only done animation twice

Lighting: A shot-for-shot comparison

As you can see, an unlighted model doesn't look as good as a lighted one. An unlighted one looks like a plastic figure where ans a lighted one looks like the real deal. Nothing new was added to any of these renders because this is only a comparison of lighting.

Timed assessment

This was the first render of my Timed Assessment. To get the foggy effect, I used a noise map and Volume lighting. This render only used one Light that was white. I like it because it looks like my modle is flying through dense fog to an unknown enemy!
This render Uses two lights with the same kind of effect. Nothing new was added to the model though. The lighting colours are red and green creating quite a nice contrast and still retains a look of the unknown
This render has some things added to it. A hatch door, power tubes on the partical gun and rear wings on the back near the jet thruster. I also added an Omni light so you can see in more detail.

This is my first try at animation. It's... not very good... at all... it sucks to be perfectly honest... but as I said, it's my first try!
